The North East corner of Florida borders Georgia. Barrier islands off the Florida coast continue into Georgia, these series of easy access islands change once you cross the state lines. This is one of the northernmost vacation destinations until you get to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.

Amelia Island

Amelia Island is a part of the Sea Islands chain that stretches along the East Coast of the United States from Florida to South Carolina. It is located in Nassau County and is the northernmost of the barrier islands on Florida’s Atlantic coast. It is 13 miles long and approximately 4 wide at its widest point. The island houses the communities of Fernandina Beach, Amelia City, and American Beach.

It has 13 miles of beautiful beaches, abundant native wildlife, and crystal clear waters, this barrier island has long been a top destination for vacationers.

Fernandina Beach

Fernandina Beach is a city in as well the county seat of Nassau County, Florida. It is the northernmost city on Florida’s Atlantic coast, situated on Amelia Island, and is one of the principal municipalities comprising Greater Jacksonville. The area was first inhabited by the Timucuan Indian people. Known as the “Isle of 8 Flags”, Amelia Island has had the flags of the following nations flown over it: France, Spain, Great Britain, Spain (again), the Republic of East Florida (1812), the Republic of the Floridas (1817), Mexico, the Confederate States of America, and the United States. There are many things to do in Fernandina Beach and Amelia, many great restaurants and bars, Art Shows, Shopping and just relaxing on the beach.

Jacksonville

Jacksonville’s earliest history dates back to 1562 with the landing of a French explorer named Jean Ribault. Ribault was greeted by Timucuan Indians, who lived and thrived on the area’s plentiful game and fish and shared their stores and knowledge with these visitors. Jacksonville was named in 1822 for Andrew Jackson, Florida’s first territorial governor and later U.S. President.

Jacksonville is a great Florida destination to explore the outdoors, enjoy eco-adventures surrounded by the natural surroundings this area has to offer. Jacksonville Beaches

Jacksonville beaches are composed of three distinctive towns. Atlantic Beach includes Town Center, a quaint shopping and dining district. Rent a bike in Neptune Beach to cycle the hard-packed sand at low tide. Jacksonville Beach with it’s fishing pier and an array of great restaurants. Visitors and natives alike are delighted by dolphins rolling just outside the surf line. Surfers are drawn to the area by some of the best waves in the region.

St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra

Vacationers from all over the world have long been visitors of St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra.  Widely known as Florida’s Historic Coast, the area was discovered in 1513 by Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon who also named Florida, La Florida in honor of Pascua Florida, the Spanish Feast of the Flowers (Easter).   Ponte Vedra Beach and St. Johns County are home to the PGA Tour Headquarters, THE PLAYERS Championship, World Golf Village and World Golf Hall of Fame.

The beaches of St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra are truly unique. There are no high-rise buildings, hotels or condominiums blocking the sun while you’re playing in the sand or splashing in cool, blue waves. You will enjoy 42 miles of wide coastline surrounded by natural beauty and plenty of light.
